The cost of an ageing website

Here are 5 signs that you are overdue for a website redesign

The website you built from the ground up when first starting your business is your pride and joy right? Of course it is! But while your website may have helped get your business off the ground in the beginning, the marketing world is forever changing and sometimes it can be hard to admit when your website is due for a refresh. (The fact you’ve clicked on this blog post might be a telling sign that deep down you know it might be ever so slightly overdue)

Before dismissing the idea, here are five questions we tell our clients to consider when deciding whether or not to take those next steps:

Is your website easy to navigate?

Your website might be underperforming if your customers can’t easily find the product or information they’re looking for. Have you ever grown frustrated when you’re unable to find the product you want and exit the website? The same could be happening to you. You could elevate your website completely by adding a simple drop down menu with clearer categories, or by adding an easy to find search bar at the top of every page.

Does your landing page entice people to explore your website further?

It’s no secret that as a society we’ve become extremely visual, so your landing page plays a vital role in capturing your audience’s attention. Your website doesn’t have to be overwhelmed with content but creating a website that is dynamic and visually engaging will give your audience a taste of the treasures your website holds and encourage them to explore further.

How are you ranking in Google?

When you Google your business or product, where do you sit among your competition? Are you on page 1 or page 12 of the Google Search Network? As a business, you want to be at the top, but how do you get there? The secret to improving your ad rank and Google success is using relevant SEO keywords in your titles, captions, page labels and descriptions. This will help your audience (and search engines) find you easier! So, how is your SEO performing?

Does your website tell people what they need to know?

While your social media and ads are important as they give people a hint of the brand, your website holds the real hub of information and for conversions. It’s worthwhile scanning over your website and asking yourself: is all information here relevant? Is it engaging or does it need a bit of spice added to it? Is there a clear call to action? If your website isn’t providing your audience with the information they’re hoping to find, they’ll exit and just like that you’ve missed out on a potential conversion.

MOST importantly, is your website converting?

Your website is the gateway to getting those conversions, and when engaging with your website your audience goes on a journey but are they making it all the way to the order confirmation page?

Take the time to ask yourself:

  • Are your website hits converting into leads/sales for your business?

  • Are your calls to action encouraging users to act?

  • Are you taking advantage of Google Analytics and acting on those relevant insights?

If you're struggling to see the results you want, start by beginning to understand how your website is currently performing and use these as your guiding steps to what changes you could make.
